Why is Reading so important?
Reading is a lifelong skill that builds a robust vocabulary and foundation of knowledge. It adds a richness and depth of meaning to life for all those who can access true, deep comprehension. Reading opens doors to new knowledge and enlightens minds.
Reading develops critical thinking skills and memory. Every time you read a book, you have to remember the setting of the book, the characters, their backgrounds, their history, their personalities, the sub-plots and so much more. As your brain learns to remember all this, your memory becomes better.
Reading a well-written book affects your ability to become better at writing. Reading helps develop your imagination, empathy and creativity. It also helps develop better mental wellbeing, social skills and strong relationships. Reading overcomes disadvantage and increases social mobility.
